We live in a time where morals and values are being dumbed down consistently to suit people's moral decadence.
If there's a place that shouldn't be influenced by all this, it should be the Church.
The Church is more than just a physical representation of the Christian religion, it ought to be a sanctified ground that exudes holiness and purity.
But just like the outside world, the church is dumbing down its values and allowing certain practices that are associated with the world to take place in the church.
On the 7th of December, The House On The Rock Church put together the 13th edition of its annual Experience gospel concert. This year's edition had over 700,000 people in attendance and dignitaries such as the major gubernatorial candidates for Lagos state Jimi Agbaje (PDP) and Jide Sanwo-Olu (APC) were in attendance.
This gospel event was hosted by Banky W and Richard Mofe Damijo and had comedians like Akpororo to "entertain" the crowd.
If Banky W, RMD and Akpororo were to organize their own entertainment based shows (as they are entertainers), will they use a pastor as the host for such events?. You already know the answer to that event.
So why is the church giving room to secular entertainers to coordinate a religious event?
As if having entertainers as hosts wasn't bad enough, popular Nigerian comedian Akpororo who happens to be a member of the host church House on the rock was given time to "entertain" the audience and he did just that.
The comedian lashed out at OAP Daddy Freeze who is notoriously popular for telling church-goers to stop paying tithe. Akpororo was quoted saying that if he had anointing like Elijah, he would turn Daddy Freeze into a wall gecko and as expected, the audience laughed about it.
It is sad to see that we are at a point where the church which ought to have an environment of spiritual sensitivity is now a place for secular comedians to ply their crass jokes.
What's even more disturbing is how this act of secular entertainers officiating Christian events has become a trend.
Some people have defended this act by saying that the church should welcome all people including entertainers and they are right, the church should welcome all people but the church shouldn't allow entertainers officiate its services and events because when they do, they inadvertently distract people from the real purpose of church fellowship which is seeking the face of God.
The people who come are no longer interested in God but in the entertainers they have come to see.
For everything, there is a time and a place and the house of God is definitely not a place that should have its services/events officiated by entertainers.
