Messi is everything: Magic, goals, captain and a leader

Lionel Messi is regularly the cause of the euphoria felt by Barcelona's supporters.

The Argentine, besides his undoubted quality, has become the leader of the group, as shown by his defence of teammate Philippe Coutinho.

The maturity of arguably the greatest player of all time is complete in every sense.

Barcelona are enjoying their star player at his peak ability in what could be another historic campaign for the Blaugrana. After all, winning another treble is what every Barcelona fan dreams of.

At the Camp Nou on Wednesday night, Messi scored another brace, in the space of seven minutes, as he took his tally to 600 goals for the club.

A 3-0 victory, led by their talisman, has put Barcelona one step closer to the Champions League final at the Wanda Metropolitano on June 1.

After the win, Messi spoke cautiously but didn't hide his joy.

"It's a good result, it's a shame that we didn't win 4-0 but we're happy with how we played," said the captain.

"We're going to a difficult ground and the tie isn't over."

Messi also criticised the Camp Nou's treatment of Philippe Coutinho during his side's victory over Liverpool.

Coutinho had an underwhelming evening and was withdrawn for Nelson Semedo after the hour mark, receiving whistled from some sections of the home crowd as he came off.

"This is a time when we have to be more united than ever, both as players and fans," he said at full-time.

"It is not the time to criticise anyone. The whistles against Coutinho are ugly. We have to be together."

The words should be of some comfort to Coutinho, who continues to go through a difficult spell with his own supporters.

The last thing Messi wants is distractions between the fans and the players. Barcelona have LaLiga Santander wrapped up and can now focus wholeheartedly on the second leg at Anfield next Tuesday. Later, on May 25, they will have the Copa del Reyfinal against Valencia to worry about, but there is still the return fixture against Liverpool to play for before then.

Barcelona's dream of the treble feels tangible, in large part due to a certain Lionel Messi.

WhatsApp to stop working on some mobile phones in 2020
