The trophy's original design was made in 1871, the updated design was crafted in 1911. This trophy’s design is a simple cup with handles and a lid, featuring vines and grapes along the cup. Winners of the trophy also qualify for the Europa League and a place in the FA Community Shield match.

FA Community Shield

The Football Association Community Shield (formerly called the Sheriff of London Charity Shield) is English football's yearly match contested between the champions of the previous Premier League season and the holders of the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium. Not only is this trophy won in a competition, but the winner’s proceeds are donated to community initiatives and charities all around the country each year. The trophy itself is a beautiful shining dish-like shield featuring the names of the previous winners.

European Champion Clubs’ Cup

The European Champion Clubs' Cup, also known as Coupe des Clubs Champions Européens, or simply the European Cup, is a trophy awarded yearly by UEFA to the football club that wins the UEFA Champions League. The Champions’ League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world, which features all-star teams from several different leagues and brings out the competition from nearly every fan. The trophy itself has actually changed throughout the years. An original rule stated that a team was allowed to permanently keep the trophy after it won 5 times or 3 times consecutively. However, in 2009, the rule was changed and now teams that attain such feat are awarded the “multiple-winner badge.”

Copa América

The Copa América is actually the oldest continental football competition. It originally consisted of only South American countries, but since the 1990s has included North American and Asian teams. The Copa América trophy is a tall, silver ornament that weighs 9 kg and has a wooden base which contains several plaques.

Corruption: Court Reduces Plateau State ex-Governor's Jail Term

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reduced the jail term of ex-Governor Joshua Dariye to 10 years. Dariye, a former Plateau State governor, was in June sentenced to 14 years in prison by the high court. However, the appeal court on Friday said while the conviction was right, the former governor should have been jailed for 10 years. The court reduced the sentence of 14 years to 10 years for criminal breach of trust while a similar conviction for diversion of N1. 62 billion ecological funds was reduced from two years to one year. The sentences are to run concurrently, like the previous judgement in June, meaning Mr Dariye has now been effectively jailed 10 years. The appeal court ruled that the lower court should not sentence a first time offender to the maximum 14 years term contained in the charge against him.
